Basic Input/Output system

A set of software instructions stored on a chip on the mobo

The BIOS enable basic computer functions such as
  • getting input from the keyboard
  • getting input from the mouse
  • getting input from the serial ports
  • etc

A mobo mfg will select a BIOS and integrate it into the board.
